Interview with Ian Wood

The new facility will make Singapore an extremely important location for LANXESS the world over. How does this affect you as Managing Director of LANXESS in Singapore?
I am delighted that LANXESS opted for Singapore. With over 70 highly qualified staff, we already have a good, strong basis for the new production facility on Jurong Island.

How important is the Singapore market to LANXESS?
The domestic market is very small compared to other Asian markets. The island state’s main significance for LANXESS is as a gateway to the entire south-east Asian market. Excellent operational and administrative efficiency provide ideal local conditions for this role.

What goals has LANXESS set itself in Singapore?
We are looking to make LANXESS even more profitable in future by reinforcing the company’s position as the preferred supplier for our target groups throughout the Asia-Pacific region. This applies in particular to potential butyl rubber customers.

Can you give us a few details about the new production facility and its location?
The new facility is being built on Jurong Island, where around 100 chemical and petrochemical companies are linked by an ultramodern infrastructure. The new facility will cover an area of approximately 20,000 m² and construction work starts in 2009. Some 5,000 control circuits and 40 km of pipelines will be laid over a period of three years. The new facility is scheduled to start production at the end of 2011.
