LANXESS in Singapore

Singapore is the ideal hub for LANXESS Chemicals due to its strategic function for most business units. LANXESS products are distributed from Singapore throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
The origin of LANXESS in Singapore dates back to 1927 when the company was represented by "N.V. Straits Java Trading Co", dealing primarily in pharmaceuticals. Since then LANXESS's line of business in Singapore has changed considerably.

Formerly just a sales and marketing site, Singapore is developing into one of the most important production sites for the future for LANXESS. In February 2008, the specialty chemicals group announced the construction of a new butyl rubber facility on Jurong Island. LANXESS has earmarked a record amount of EUR 400 million for this investment. From 2011, the site in Singapore will produce up to 100,000 tons of butyl rubber annually, making the LANXESS plant the largest facility of its type in Asia.

The country of Singapore itself provides limited sales opportunities, but its strategic geographical position, good transport connections, political stability, excellent trading infrastructure and a lack of bureaucracy make it the ideal hub and logistics center for the distribution of chemicals throughout the APAC region. The most important customers are the electronics, IT, pharmaceutical, paint and water treatment industries.

LANXESS also sets standards in Singapore with regard to safety at work and environmental protection. The company observes the principles of sustainable development in all its global activities and pays the same attention to ecological and social aspects as it does to its economic growth.
