LANXESS donates more than US$ 150,000 to support China´s earthquake relief efforts by Red Cross
The devastating earthquake occurred in Southwest China in May 2008 has claimed tens of thousands of casualties and caused horrendous damages.
As a responsible corporate citizen, LANXESS China decided to financially support victims in the earthquake area through donations to International Red Cross and also encouraged its employees to make contributions. LANXESS China pledged to contribute two yuan for every yuan donated by employees. "Although there is no LANXESS site affected so far, we could not excuse ourselves from our bounden duty to those confronted with the disaster", emphasized Yongli Wang, President of LANXESS Greater China, the importance of the employees´ aid.
This initiative was embraced wholeheartedly by all 900 employees in LANXESS China. Within six days, voluntary donations by LANXESS´s Chinese employees have already exceeded US$ 19,000. In turn, LANXESS China topped up the employee contributions by US$ 47,400. So in total, about US$ 67,000 was raised by LANXESS in China. Moved by the plight of the victims and their families in China and the generosity of the local employees, donations from LANXESS in other countries poured in. This included donations of US$ 78,000 by LANXESS´s headquarters in Leverkusen and US$ 4,800 from LANXESS KK.
