LANXESS donation to Red Cross to benefit 100 families in Myanmar
Singapore, Australia, Japan, Korea and India – German specialty chemicals group LANXESS’s Asia Pacific offices in Singapore, Australia, Japan, Korea and India have donated EUR 6,900 (approximately S$14,670) to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for their emergency cyclone relief efforts in Myanmar.
According to the International Federation, the contributions by LANXESS will help assist approximately 100 families for the next 6 weeks in providing emergency shelter, utensils and drinking water.
Mr. Ian Wood, Managing Director of LANXESS Pte Ltd, said, “Our offices in Asia Pacific have rallied together in concern for the people of Myanmar and to do our small part to help.”
Mr. Grant Wakefield, Managing Director of LANXESS Pty Ltd Australia, said, “The Red Cross has government approval to go to the disaster zone and is able to understand the people’s needs. We are therefore confident and pleased that our donation will go to benefiting the recovery efforts in Myanmar.”
Mr. Hiroaki Ito, CEO of LANXESS K.K., said: "In Japan, we regularly have typhoons which can be of very high intensity. With this experience of what nature's force can do, we feel very strongly with the victims of the cyclone in Myanmar."
Mr. Jewoong Ko, Managing Director of LANXESS Korea Ltd, said, “Our employees in Korea were moved by the devastation faced by the people in Myanmar and wanted to help. I am very proud of the community spirit among our employees and thank them for their support.”
Dr. Joerg Strassburger, Managing Director and Country Representative, LANXESS India Pte Ltd, said, “We are all saddened by the tragedy of devastating cyclone Nagris that took place and our thoughts are with all who have been affected. We all need to now focus on how we can provide support and relief to the thousands who are suffering. I would also like to thank all members of LANXESS who, through their kind donation, help ease this suffering and also join their hands in helping the people in Myanmar.”
Alistair Henley, Head of Asia / Pacific Zone Office of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Kuala Lumpur, said, “We thank the LANXESS team in Asia Pacific for their donation. Such contributions support us greatly in helping survivors in Myanmar and encourage our aid workers in the field that they are not alone.”
The Red Cross Red Crescent is continuing its efforts to get aid into Myanmar and out into the delta. This includes providing family kits for 30,000 people, with each kit including tarpaulins, pots, water purification tablets, soap, and mosquito nets,. These will be distributed by Myanmar Red Cross volunteers who have been working around the clock to reach and assist affected people.
To date, 24 flights have arrived in Yangon from Red Cross Red Crescent warehouses and national societies, carrying more than 267 tonnes of additional shelter supplies and other vital relief items.
