LANXESS raises more than US$150,000 (more than RMB 1,000,000) to support China’s earthquake relief efforts by Red Cross
Singapore, China, Australia, Japan, Korea and India, May 28, 2008 –
Within five days of the earthquake’s occurrence in Sichuan province,
China, German specialty chemicals group LANXESS has raised more than
US$150,000(S$205,000 or RMB 1,000,000) from its employees and offices
in China and various parts of the world. The donation will be made to
Red Cross.
On 13 May, a day after an 8.0 Richter scale quake hit Sichuan province
in southwest China, Mr. Yongli Wang, President of LANXESS Greater
China, sent an e-mail to LANXESS employees in China, calling them to
help the people affected by the quake. This initiative was embraced
wholeheartedly by all 900 employees in LANXESS China. By 19 May,
voluntary donations by LANXESS’s Chinese employees have already
exceeded RMB 139,000 (US$19,000). Among the donations, about 10% of the
employees donated RMB 500 (US$71) or above, including several employees
who contributed even more than RMB 1000 (US$143). In turn, LANXESS
China topped up the employee contributions by RMB 330,000 (US$47,400).
In total, 469,000 RMB (US$67,000) was raised by LANXESS in China.
Moved by the plight in China and the generosity of the local employees,
donations from LANXESS in other countries poured in. This included
donations of EUR 50,000 (US$78,000) by LANXESS’s headquarters, US$4,800
by LANXESS KK, and contributions by employees of LANXESS Korea and
LANXESS Pte Ltd.
Mr. Wang said, “LANXESS employees have shown their great sympathy and
generosity to those affected by such a major disaster in China. We
have every reason to believe that, by combining our physical and
financial resources with human care and kindness, we can help rebuild
the city of Sichuan and make it a better place.” Mr. Wang also
expressed his sincere thanks to overseas colleagues for their donations
to the Chinese people.
LANXESS Donation to Myanmar Cyclone Relief Efforts
Last week, LANXESS’s Asia Pacific offices in Singapore, Australia,
Japan, Korea and India donated EUR 6,900 (approximately US$10,800) to
the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies
for their emergency cyclone relief efforts in Myanmar. According to
the International Federation, the contributions by LANXESS will help
assist approximately 100 families for the next 6 weeks in providing
emergency shelter, utensils and drinking water.

6.61 billion and currently around 15,200 employees in 21 countries. The
company is represented at 50 production sites worldwide. The core
business of LANXESS is the development, manufacture and sale of
