LANXESS India creates green zone at its Jhagadia site in Gujarat

  • Green Zone underscores LANXESS’s commitment towards environmental sustainability
  • Launches initiative with Tree Plantation Drive on World Earth Day and donation of lockers to Industrial Technical Institute in Jhagadia and Ankleshwar.

On the occasion of World Earth Day celebrated every year on 22 April. Specialty chemicals company LANXESS India today announced the creation of a Green Zone at its Jhagadia site in Gujarat, India. The site, which is under construction, will host an ion exchange resins plant and a rubber chemicals plant and will create 230 jobs. The Green initiative aims to plant around 3000 trees.

To kick-off the initiative, a tree plantation drive was organized in cooperation with the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) to create awareness about environmental protection.

During the event, Ashoka and Bougainvillea trees were planted. In India, the Ashoka (meaning “sorrowless”) tree is regarded as legendary and sacred. It is also said to be effective in combating noise pollution and have healing properties for a variety of ailments. Bougainvilleas are evergreen flowering plants that add touches of beauty to their surroundings.

After the tree planting, the participants signed their pledges on a board, declaring their commitment to protect the environment. Another highlight was the poster displays of environment-related topics.

More than 100 people were involved, and they include LANXESS India employees, GPCB member and students from the Industrial Technical (ITI) Institute in Ankleshwar.

At the occasion, LANXESS India also announced the donation of lockers to ITI centres in Jhagadia and Ankleshwar.

GUJARAT POLLUTION CONTROL BOARD

The Government of Gujarat constituted the Gujarat Pollution Control Board on 15.10.1974 with a view to protect the environment, prevent and control the pollution of water in the State of Gujarat, that occupies a prominent niche in progressive and industrial development of the country. The Board has been over the years entrusted with the Central Acts and relevant Rules for pollution control as notified thereof from time to time.

INDUSTRIAL TRAINING INSTITUTE

The Institute established in 1963 with 8 Trades & a Total 216 Sanctioned Seats in Bharuch shifted to Ankleshwar in 1966. Now it is running with 36 Trades & 2952 Sanctioned Seats. It covers 21 Acres of land with 10952 Square Meters of construction area having Administration Building, Workshops, Staff Quarters and Hostel. The institute is also working as "Nodal Institute" for Bharuch and Narmada District. Ankleshwar is known for its industrial township called G.I.D.C. (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation), which is one of the biggest industrial townships in Asia. Ankleshwar also has an office of ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited). The 158 year-old Golden Bridge connects Ankleshwar to Bharuch across the Narmada on the station front while a new bridge constructed connects the highway. Today, Ankleshwar has over 5000 big and small chemical plants.
